This fourth successful neighborhood collaboration among Christian Zapatka Architect, Bell Designs, and Dilan Homes will create an opportunity without equal to own a home offering almost 6,900 square feet comprising four levels, all accessible by an elevator as well as the staircase.  As 2025 recipients of the prestigious John Russell Pope Award from the Washington Mid Atlantic Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art, the team has proven that it possesses the appropriate perspective and expertise to create a home that will be among the city’s most distinguished.

The Italianate Style was considered the most relevant choice for the exterior, as it not only has historical precedent, but is also a style which allows for a generous floor plan and with a modest cohort of delightful exterior details.  Every aspect of the house was carefully considered to meet contemporary living requirements and provide generous but separate private living spaces.  No aspect of the design was treated anecdotally or without significance.  The forecourt, front and rear gardens, and parking are all an integral part of the total design concept.

The interior plan and room arrangement was inspired by the “villa urbana,” a private residence of Rome’s upper class during the halcyon days of the empire.  While the five bedrooms, five bathrooms, powder room, library, exercise room, office, storage rooms, laundry, scullery, kitchen, and public living spaces have all been organized according to logic, beauty, and utility, early contract holders may have an opportunity to work with the design team to reorient some of the spaces to suit specific considerations.
